Three Points

All worth investigating

1) The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is awaiting autopsy results for a man whose body was found beside a street in Gretna Friday.

2) New Orleans police are investigating a shooting at Homer and Vallette streets in Algiers. The incident was reported after 1 p.m. Authorities have several suspects in custody.

3) The New Orleans Police Department on Friday released its 2006 crime statistics that a spokesman said show a reduction in crime over the previous year.

The uniform crime report statistics show a 22 percent reduction in violent crime when compared to 2005 statistics, according to NOPD spokesman Sgt. Joe Narcisse. Nonviolent crime dropped about 25 percent.

Come on now...

Today in the NEWS

The NOPD.
Seriously, here we go folks, this is no joke...
1) Guns:

A Gretna police officer accidentally shot himself in the chest Thursday afternoon, and remains in intensive care at West Jefferson Medical Center after losing a massive amount of blood.

2)Probes:

New Orleans police officials have reassigned a high-ranking veteran and launched an investigation into several other officers in connection with payroll issues regarding off-duty details, a department spokesman said.

3) Bar Fights and Immigrant Abuse:

Further details emerged Thursday about the firing of two New Orleans police officers, one who hit a man in handcuffs and another involved in a bar fight, and the suspension of a supervisor who allegedly interfered with an internal investigation into the bar fight.

4) Robbing hookers:

A former New Orleans police officer pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday to conspiring with three other men to rob a French Quarter massage parlor.

5) AND...Praise:

When the New Orleans Police Department handed out awards to its rank and file Wednesday, the winners included one officer since transferred to an unwanted position and two others currently accused of murder and attempted murder in the Danziger bridge police shootings case.

There has to be a direct correlation between these sorts of shenanigans and the decline of Western Civilization, right?

Yet Another

But this time, they got someone for it:

A 32-year-old Algiers man was killed at his home Wednesday afternoon and New Orleans police arrested a suspect in the shooting

Trails leading everywhere

I went to my first mass today thinking, "maybe this is a revelation?"
The street punks are playing fiddles and the Times-Picayune has this to report:

A 31-year-old New Orleans man was fatally shot late Tuesday night in eastern New Orleans, police said.

Apparently, he was in his car...

Matricide, Patricide, Fratricide

Whatever you call it, it's another New Orleans area Murder:

Kenner police have obtained a murder warrant for a 19-year-old who detectives said admitted to accidentally shooting her 17-year-old brother on March 17.

It's 8:00 and somewhere on the banks of the river, near the naval base I would assume, the national anthem is playing.

In the Wee Hours

It's like Fast Food Nation, only with guns:
New Orleans police are investigating the shooting of a man waiting at the drive-thru of an Algiers fast food restaurant.
The man was shot multiple times just before 6 a.m. at McDonald's on Gen. De Gaulle Drive. His condition was unknown.

We all need to stay sharp

While I was trying to identify where I knew the cocktail waitress from, this went down:
Officers found a man dead with a gunshot wound to the head in a vacant residence at 2510 Freret St. between Second and Third

A preacher once told me, "Keep enough distance to be effective."

Sunday, March 25, 2007

I drive by here every morning

There's place to get boiled shrimp right there:
A shooting in the area of St. Bernard and North Claiborne avenues in the 7th Ward Sunday left one person dead, New Orleans police said.

And as things continue to fall apart:
A New Orleans shooting victim died Sunday, nearly a month after he suffered mltiple wounds in the Hollygrove neighborhood, the Orleans Parish coroner’s office said.

This typo ridden Times-Picayune update also indicated that a baby was shot at the same time as this man.

To counter act all this:
Protesters held a march in the Marigny that started at a coffee shop.

The Era and so forth

This is the second incident of this nature in recent weeks. Even the streets are analogous:
New Orleans police on Saturday were investigating the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old male and the wounding of three others in an incident at the corner of South Broad Street and Orleans Avenue.

In other travesties:
We really have only one more week in which we can justifiably drink hot coffee in the city

Bless Me Two TImes

The second becasue I'm bound to succeed:
A 38-year-old LaPlace man was in River Parishes Hospital after he was shot in the back of the head by a passing motorist early Thursday morning, authorities said.

It has arms in all the burgs, kids.

Hanging Out

This is how it goes down:
A 21-year-old man and an 11-year-old girl standing in a crowded Central City street were shot Tuesday night, police said.

If I were Blanco, I wouldn't (or rather would) run.

Tuesday, March 20, 2007

It stands to reason...

If they get shot, they might die:

Josh Rodrique was found in the 2000 block of Iberville Street, near North Prieur street, on March 2 shortly before 7 p.m., police said. He had been shot once in the neck, police and the coroner's office said.

Also:
A man shot several times Sunday afternoon in a yard in the 9th Ward died about six hours later at a hospital, the Orleans Parish coroner's office said Monday night.

Plus:
A LaPlace man was in guarded condition Monday in River Parishes Hospital after being shot several times by a Mount Airy man, a spokesman for the St. John the Baptist Sheriff's Office said.

Let’s hope this last guy’s fate isn’t as predictable

Ballot or Bullet

The Bullet:
It doesn't get much closer than this one:
Sunday shortly before 4 p.m., a man was shot multiple times in a yard next to a house in 1200 block of Piety Street near St. Claude Avenue, police said.

The Ballot:
NOMB agrees with part of Nagin's comments in the Washington Post. The black community has been stretched as far as it can go. NOMB thinks maybe though it's partly a class issue, one based on access to technology/education. A return to X's 64' is recommended. "You can't sing up on some freedom, but you can swing up on some freedom."

The Bullet:
On Saturday night a 45-year-old local man was shot outside a FEMA trailer in the Hollygrove neighborhood, New Orleans police officer Garry Flot said.

The Ballot:
Somewhere out there is the proof that Bruneau (sic) lost the Lakeview election, and that demographics are fluctuating.

Sunday, March 18, 2007

Here it goes

Nagin suggests plot against blacks:

Mayor Ray Nagin on Saturday floated the idea that "they" have plotted to place roadblocks in the way of the return of African-Americans to New Orleans as part of a larger plan to use natural disasters to manipulate the demographic and political landscape.

Not that this is untrue.

Also,
The boy who was shot on Saturday died, and the Sunday living section showed a funeral and declared that the ceremony of them was in danger of disappearing.

Online/Street Life not compatable

It's been said that online updates should be made Tuesday because Wed is the biggest hit day for superfluous Internet browsing.
Unfortunately, violent crime is a Friday, Saturday, Sunday thing.

Last night:
A 15-year-old boy was shot several times Friday night as he walked in the 7th Ward, police said.

Talk Makes Murder

Example:
If Katie Cruz brings Tom to town to make a movie. This city can't handle both Pitt and Cruz. People go crazy. Plus its getting hott.

NOMB is happy to not have anything to post, except conjecture, which is:
Something was going on on St. Bernard below the freeway.
And also in the parking lot of Walgreens on St. Claude.
The Guardian Angels were posted up in front of Helen Hill's house on Rampart, which was a statement.

A culture of it

It seems our fair residents must, above all others, accept there lives in this city will be nothing but the careful navigation of all levels of brutality.

Monday, March 12, 2007

Is it Official?

The Times-Picyune reports:

A new study by a Tulane University professor puts New Orleans' murder rate as the highest in the country.

But NOMB wonders if this study doesn't have a built in conflict of interest angle?

Because It doesn't stop for Sunday

Two men were shot Sunday evening near Westwego, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said.

These two, luckily, are gonna make it

Bold Execution and Worker Type

The paper reported three dead in two days, but if you count them up:

From T-P
1.The man, who had cropped hair bleached blond, was riddled with bullets.

2.The body was removed from the shattered remains of a silver Dodge Durango that he was driving when he was shot. His sister, who was also in the car, grieved on the neutral ground, her white tank top stained with blood.

3.Woman killed by several gunshot wounds as she walked near the corner of Gov. Nicholls Street and North Roman streets at 5 a.m. with a 25-year-old acquaintance, who was wounded in the ankle.

But just to comfort every one out there, the Police had this to say:

"Everybody who was harmed, it looks as if they were the intended victims."

And a side note:
4. 25-year-old man found fatally shot in the head Friday morning inside his home in the Village de l'Est neighborhood
This killing

Thurs/Wed

Lower ninth: this Times-Picayune version is inconsistent with the radio version which suggests the rifle incident took place inside a abandoned house. Either way, this guy is sleeping.
A National Guard sergeant shot and killed a man who threw a piece of broken glass at police, then pointed a rifle at police and national guard officers who were walking toward him early Thursday, police said.

This is from Wed: JP
A Terrytown store clerk was shot to death during a robbery Tuesday night, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is searching for the killer.

The Eye

Suddenly Nagins cameras seem justified - and Times Picayne writers get to use adverbs:

Around 9 p.m. Sunday night, the gunman sat in a white sedan parked on a busy street corner. Then two men rode down Magnolia Street on bicycles.

The gunman waited patiently, swinging open the car door just as men pedaled past. The driver jumped out, sprinting from the car into the street, just steps behind 42-year-old Ronnie Keelen.

He pointed and fired several times. Keelen dropped.

PS - We hear you can actually view the footage on Nola.com

Return to Normalcy

Recording our 34th this year:
The fatal shooting of a security guard at a FEMA trailer park in New Orleans is the latest in a string of crime.

They see the worst of it:
A man was shot and killed Sunday night in Central City, New Orleans police said.

The story is in the details:
A lover's spat turned deadly early Sunday in the Lower Garden District when a 43-year-old woman fatally plunged a kitchen knife into her boyfriend's chest, police said.

The lucky one:
A man riding a four-wheeler was wounded Sunday when someone in a passing sport utility vehicle shot him three times on Earhart Boulevard, New Orleans police said.

The attacker or attackers also fired a flare at him but missed.

Saturday, March 3, 2007

The Latest

Yesterday:
The New Orleans Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a local male late Friday night in the 1100 block of North Prieur Street, near Esplanade Avenue.
Seven and a half hours earlier, three people were shot at Josephine and South Liberty streets.

Today!
A man was found shot in the back just before 2 p.m. Saturday in the 3400 block of Garden Oaks Drive in Algiers, New Orleans police said.

Friday, March 2, 2007

Hoping she lives.

A young woman was shot in the street shortly(sic) today in Central City.

An unnecessary addendum:
Several bullet casings and a bloody white tank top were left on the scene, at the corner of Liberty Street.
