Saturday

You'll notice that both these stories have similar settings. Do you think there's something strange about the fact that we still identify areas by their "former" names? Are the ghosts over there that strong? NOMB says yeppers.

A 19-year-old New Orleans man was shot to death Friday on an Annunciation Street sidewalk in a neighborhood of mixed-income homes where the St. Thomas public housing complex was located, police said.

The New Orleans Police Department on Saturday found the body of a woman with a gunshot to the head lying in a grassy area along Press Drive near Higgins Boulevard, near the former Desire public housing complex. Police, who responded around 1:30 p.m., did not identify the victim.

Blah, Blah, Blah

There's been some shootings, there's been some stabbings. There was a mob in front of the Welcome Home Center grabbing at the social workers, being egged on by FEMA. Yadda Yadda Yadda.

Also:
A 4-year-old boy died after accidentally shooting himself in the head Monday in a Kenner home, police said.

you know, just to brighten up your summer.

Schools Out

For all of you who think the place to be is Central City, or Ninth Ward, N. Broad and Hollygrove, let NOMB fill ya in on a little tid bit. University City is the worst of them all. Kenner Up!

-Kenner detectives on Friday were looking for help to find the person who shot and killed a Kenner man in front of his house shortly after midnight.

Orlando Wilson Jr., 26, was shot once in the head about 1 a.m. in the 200 block of Emerson Drive, said Detective Brian McGregor, a Kenner police department spokesman. Wilson was pronounced dead on the scene.

Day Off

NOMB is taking the day off. Shhhh...

White People Kill Too,

Apparently,
It would sure be a surprise to see these faces plastered on Claiborne. Even though, we suppose, they did their killing in Jefferson.

On a side note, domestic violence still the hot new thing.
New Orleans police have booked a man with negligent homicide after his 4-year-old son died on Father's Day, three days after apparently being left in a hot car, authorities said.

Such it goes

more of the same, but this time, the good guys

A would-be carjacker found himself on the receiving end of several bullets after one of his intended victims successfully wrestled away the gun and shot him, all in the drive-thru line of a Metairie fast food restaurant.

The complaints

Several folks have mentioned to NOMB that the blog is, and the very concept of it is also, terrible (horrible, vicious, etc)
Allow us a moment...

1:A 19-year-old was stabbed to death in the first slaying in St. Bernard Parish in almost two years. The victim, Frederick Luwisch, and the attacker, Merlin Brown, 20, were arguing over a woman about 6 p.m. Friday. Police said Brown grabbed a kitchen knife from his truck and stabbed Luwisch once in the chest. Luwisch collapsed and died.

2:The first shooting, in Central City, occurred about 6:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of Josephine Street, between Simon Bolivar Avenue and South Liberty Street.

3:About two hours later Sunday, another fatal shooting occurred in the 1900 block of Esplanade Avenue, between North Prieur and North Johnson streets, at the border between the 7th Ward and the 6th Ward.

4:A man was shot to death around 4 a.m. Sunday, the New Orleans Police Department reported. The unidentified man was found lying in the street at Gordon and Urquhart Streets by Fifth District officers responding to a report of shots being fired in the area. He had a gunshot wound to the head

The fact is, this blog, which reposts the majority of its reports from other sources doesn't even include the non-fatal shootings, stabbings, beatings, robberies, assualts that occur everyday in mass here in the NO. Don't forget where we live, becasue we can't. And we want it to get better.

The Questions, The Answers

When NOMB's mother conspired to visit the city, she was referred to the blog. "But not where you're at?" she asks.

A 39-year-old local man was gunned down Friday afternoon while riding a bike near the Bywater neighborhood.
The man was traveling in the 1200 block of Gallier Street around 3:45 p.m. when he was shot several times in the body and legs and fell from his bike, said New Orleans Police Officer Garry Flot.

Also:
In an unrelated shooting, a local man was shot in the leg around 8:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of Frenchmen Street, police said. His wound was not believed to be serious, said police spokeswoman Sabrina Richardson.

For the record, both of these are "where we at"

The Beat Goes On

This is some serious Menace 2 Society shit right here, O-Dawg:

A 12-year-old boy, his father and grandfather were shot by one of four shoplifters they confronted Thursday night in a Harvey clothing store owned by the family, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said.

The gunman and his three accomplices escaped.

The madness

The block is hot as ever and NOMB is running with head low to avoid the marching gangs of angry neighbors, camera crews and everyone else still upset by the brutal murder of the salon owner by homeless man. Still, the world spins

The Times-Picayune reads like a nightmare, death, babies with cracked skulls, arrests and releases, trees falling on cops, cops shooting cops. The Internet is also interested in these things. Read the Craigslist.org rants and raves and you'll be full of it.

Something Extra

NOMB does not want to act as if one death is some how more important than another. This, of course, is what seperates us from the traditional Media in NO. Seeing as there have been at least two other murders with in a six block radius in the last few days, the camera crews are piled up over off Port. This is a bad day for the neighborhood, but NOMB has never recieved a phone call t 11:00 at night to discuss the the shooting of a "thug" off Spain and Marias.

New Orleans police detectives questioned a 36-year-old man late Tuesday in the slaying of a French Quarter hair salon owner, Robin D'Malta.

It's been a while

for a post that is, not some murders. The summer makes for it, folks. It really does. We have suicide, robberies, murders, indictments. Sometimes NOMB takes a couple days off just to breathe.

Samuel Gonzales, 26, of Guatemala, was killed Sunday about 2 a.m. in the 4200 block of Clara Street in the general area of Napoleon and South Claiborne avenues.

There was the shooting of 27-year-old Albert Phillips around 10:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Spain and Marais Streets, police said. Phillips was found dead in the street with several gunshot wounds to his body.

Robin Malta, 43, was found dead in his house at 634 Port St. between Chartres and Royal streets when his sister went to check on him, Gagliano said.
He said the exact cause of death was not known, but the case was being treated as a homicide Monday night.
It appeared the man had wounds that could be conistent with homicide, but authorities could not be sure because the body was decomposed. An autopsy will be performed today, Gagliano said.

Then, there's this death:
A former New Orleans police officer, facing trial in connection with the videotaped 2005 beating of a retired teacher in the French Quarter, died over the weekend in an apparent suicide, authorities said.

But wait, there's still more...
An off-duty New Orleans police officer shot and killed a carjacking suspect in Marrero early Sunday, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

Joseph Magee, 18, of New Orleans, was gunned down about 9:45 p.m. Saturday in the 3400 block of Touro Street, between Pleasure and Lafreniere streets, near Dillard University.

Another shooting happened Sunday about 2 a.m. in the 4200 block of Clara Street, near Napoleon and South Claiborne avenues. A 26-year-old victim was found on the sidewalk with multiple gunshots. Emergency medical technicians pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

There were some shootings that didn't result in death this weekend:
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating three West Bank shootings over two days, one happening during a robbery attempt of a Bridge City store Thursday and two shootings blocks apart in Terrytown early Friday.
On Friday, a man was shot about 2 a.m., in the 200 block of Helen Street. About 1 1/2 hours later and four blocks away, another man was shot while in the 200 block of Nel Court, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Meanwhile, about 3:30 p.m., Thursday, three men wearing white T-shirts, one covering his face with a mask, walked into Mike's Cash and Carry in the 2200 block of Bridge City Avenue, went to the counter and began pistol-whipping three employees, Fortunato said.
One of the victims fled from the store to summon police, and when he returned inside, one of the suspects opened fire with what appeared to be a .22-caliber pistol. That victim was struck once, causing a wound that was not life-threatening, Fortunato said.

Family

It's true, you really do hurt...

An argument between two Chalmette brothers over $20 escalated into a fight involving a jack, a hammer and a machete, St. Bernard Parish authorities said.

When it was over, Charles Rinkus, 51, of 307 W. Celestine St., was booked with aggravated battery, and his brother, Harold Rinkus, 46, of 305 W. Celestine St., was nursing a head wound, authorities said.

Thursday, June 7, 2007

It’s very uncomfortable in the city these days. And the only recourse seems to be stabbing, and shooting, and robbing. NOMB wonders if the sting and burn of the mosquito bites might suddenly vanish if they suited up and stormed the Gay Bar-B-Que down on the corner and demanded the cash.

This first one had no reportage in yesterday’s paper, just picture of a man with a sheet. Today, we get the juice:
A 19-year-old New Orleans man was gunned down by an AK-47 assault rifle late Tuesday night in Central City.
Shortly before 10 p.m., police responding to a report of gunshots found the man face down on the sidewalk in the 1600 block of Baronne Street, bloodied by gunshot wounds, according to Officer Sabrina Richardson.

Kenna:
Kenner police are looking for two gun-wielding men who entered a south Kenner home last week, pistol-whipped a couple who had been sitting in their living room watching television and stole the woman's purse, Kenner police said.

This one has potential -
Officers were summoned Tuesday to Dixieland Mobile Home and RV Park, 176 W. Airline Drive, at about 11:20 a.m. after a resident found the body of Odrey Bordelon, 60, said Capt. James Gallagher, Kenner Police Department spokesman. Bordelon's body was in the bedroom of his apartment with a cable wrapped tightly around his neck.

LaPlace:
The boy, who authorities say was captured minutes after the Tuesday night robbery, pulled a silver handgun on his schoolmate, a 15-year-old LaPlace boy, in the 200 block of Elm Street in LaPlace, authorities said. He was booked with armed robbery, said Maj. Mike Tregre, spokesman for the Sheriff's Office.

A 22-year-old LaPlace man is recovering from a gunshot wound suffered during a robbery attempt Friday night as investigators on Wednesday continued searching for the gunman.

Tracking Trends

Just like haircuts and shoes with roller skates hidden in them, everything moves in trend cycles, they even have "trend spotters" and "tastemakers" in the industry who's sole purpose is to seek out the next big thing, right? NOMB thinks the next big thing in NOLA is domestic violence. You can donate your phone to it at Verizon. The heat is making it too hard to sleep. So what's next, shoot a gun at your loved one:

A Kenner man was booked with attempted murder Monday night after a shotgun was fired at his live-in girlfriend and police, according to the Kenner Police Department.

No one was shot, but the woman broke her leg when she jumped out a second-story window to escape Lee Allen Paton, 38, at their apartment at 2909 Iowa Ave., said Capt. James Gallagher, Kenner Police Department spokesman.

Still no Iraq, Dawg

If it's not black males killing each other, it's domestic, so you know, people don't need to worry. Unless of course, they're black, or male, or in a relationship, or living in New Orleans, or not even remotely fooled by the rediculous logic that says only young black males are getting killed, or people who think that some how okay (you know, as long as its not me), or people who feel at ease because the problem is "taking care of itself.'

1.
Police said a man was shot to death by his wife Monday evening in the Central City neighborhood, the fourth killing in New Orleans in three days and the second Monday, police said.
The Orleans Parish coroner's office identified the dead man as George Hammond, 45, of New Orleans.
Police said his wife, Janet Hammond, was a suspect.
Police responded to a call about gunshots in the 1800 block of Second Street shortly before 7:30 p.m. and found George Hammond inside a blue shotgun double, police spokeswoman Sabrina Richardson said. Hammond was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been shot in the stomach, police said.

2.
Earlier Monday, Terrell Ceazer, 25, of New Orleans was fatally shot in Treme.
Shortly after 3 a.m., police responded to a call about a "male shot" at St. Ann Street and North Claiborne Avenue.

You can tell by the copy that Ms. Katy did not write any of this. Where's the reportage. At last murder should be exciting, no?

COpy and Paste

NOMB loves the lords day. It makes for great copy:

A couple of unique ones for us -
New Orleans police are investigating the unrelated shooting deaths of a woman in eastern New Orleans and a man in the 9th Ward.
The woman, Tammie Johnson, 36, of New Orleans, died of a shotgun blast to the chest, chief coroner's investigator John Gagliano said.
In the other case, police were called to the 1300 block of Bartholomew Street on Sunday shortly after 7 a.m. In an alley between Urquhart and North Villere streets, officers found a 26-year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

NOMB has a new favorite crime writer, Katy Reckdahl. Ms. Katy please contact us -
Chaotic bursts of gunfire outside Kenny's Key West in Metairie wounded two men early Sunday. The barrage left 50 casings on the ground near the popular nightclub with a history of violence.

Family life! -
Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies are investigating an apparent murder-suicide of a couple Sunday in the 1400 block of Dogwood Drive in Harvey.

so behind

here we go:

As patrons left a Gretna nightclub early Saturday, a man shot four people and escaped as police from two parishes pursued him, Gretna police said.
