Legitimacy

Sometimes, this stuff is so stark its frightening:

A man was shot in the face Thursday night on Earhart Boulevard

Other times, it seems like pulp novel:
An unidentified woman was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds in the backyard of an Algiers home Thursday and New Orleans Police are trying to determine if the body is connected to a local woman missing since mid-February. Police found the body at about 1:10 p.m. behind a home in the 3300 block of Lancaster Street. Officers were responding to a report of a body found when they located the woman, Initially, police were not sure if the woman's death was a homicide, but after further investigation it was classified as such.An employee of the Fifth District Assessor's Office actually located the body while doing a routine measurement of the home for assessment. That worker, who did not want to be identified, said he received permission from property owners to enter the backyard, and found the body near a fence. Residents of the neighborhood said they had not smelled any foul odor from the house, and the owner of the home apparently lived there intermittently

Mostly though, its just another day in New Orleans, home of the inclemet weather and bullets.
