Big and Easy

A reminder to the nola.com poster who wrote the following:

"New Orleans murder blog 2009 as of 5/25 listed
83 murders. (They now list only an additional 2 although there have been more than 2 in the past week). There have now been 9 since that date....in Orleans Parish alone. Riley just can't add."

We report any known murders in Orleans, Jefferson, and St. Bernard parishes, so the number you've got - 83 - may include murders outside Riley's domain. We don't keep our own statistics because we don't think this blog should be thought of as an authority on its subject matter. We just report whatever we hear or read about. Still, we know what you're saying.

1) A 42-year-old man was shot dead Wednesday night in Old Jefferson after a "drug deal went bad". The shooting occurred about 10 p.m. near the intersection of Burns Street and South Causeway Blvd in Shrewsbury. The dead man was found slumped over the wheel of a truck. A 40-year-old passenger was shot in the lower extremities. He was taken to a hospital in unknown condition. Jefferson, Murder, Shooting

2) Two men were wounded in the 1000 block of Montegut. The shooting happened shortly after 10 p.m. One of the men injured in the New Orleans shooting was was hit in the leg and the other was shot in the forearm. Their conditions were not immediately available. Bywater, Shooting

3) A 20-year-old local man who was shot Sunday in the St. Roch neighborhood died from his injuries Wednesday at LSU Interim Public Hospital. David Jefferson died from a gunshot wound to his head. He was shot Sunday night near the intersection of Johnson and Music streets at 9:50 p.m. St. Roch, Murder [updated from Tuesday's post]
