Irony

In one way.

An off-duty New Orleans police officer was in stable condition after he was stabbed by a man who asked him and fellow officers for money on Canal Boulevard early Sunday, New Orleans police said.

In another, not so much.

Always a bad idea, this one

A New Orleans man was in stable condition Saturday after he was shot by New Orleans police late Friday when he pointed a gun at officers, police said.

You're lucky you lived. If it had been in St. Bernard or Kenner.

Front Page

22-year-old 62nd murder victim of the year:

A 22-year-old New Orleans man was shot to death and a second man wounded within two blocks of St. Charles Avenue in Central City Friday evening.

The problem with this number, aside from the fact that is probably completely wrong, does not include the surrounding parishes, such as Jefferson, where murders rack up ad infinitum. Also, we have hospitals full of gun shot victims, such as the second, unnamed man in this story, who could very well die form his wounds.

While some might argue that the parish numbers don't need to be combined. NOMB believes that the diaspora of Orleans residents and Orleans beefs spill over into Jefferson and vise versa. A strong case could be made.

The Truth

If NOMB said they wee standing right there today @ 11:30, would you believe them...you should

A 24-year-old man was shot in the St. Roch neighborhood at about noon Friday. New Orleans Police said the man had been shot several times before stumbling into the street and collapsing in the neutral ground at the intersection of Franklin and Galvez. Police said the man suffered wounds to the head and body, and was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, said New Orleans police spokesman Garry Flot.

Speechless

What are you gonna do?

In one case, a man was beaten to death early Thursday just outside the Orleans Parish Criminal Courthouse.

and...

About 90 minutes earlier, police found a 31-year-old man lying in an Algiers driveway with gunshot wounds to his arm and mouth. The shooting took place about 3 a.m. Thursday in the 3700 block of Preston Place. The man underwent surgery at a local hospital. Further details were not available, police said.

In another incident, a 32-year-old man was shot by his brother-in-law Wednesday night in eastern New Orleans, according to police.

Not to be out down Central City gets in it's licks:

About midnight, police responding to gunshots in Central City found a man with a stomach wound in the 2100 block of Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard. Neither his condition nor the circumstances of the shooting were released by police.

Top of The Morning

Two Algiers teens were wounded in a drive-by shooting Tuesday evening at a street corner near where they live, police said.

It's now official:
A Metairie man has been indicted in the Feb. 23 death of a 62-year-old man who was found with his throat slashed in his home

This headline is more than we care to comment on
Students to learn to shun violence

These days, I fyou are reading online, it takes three or four sub-pages of navigation before you can find any of the stories NOMB is looking for. They are filed under "Metro"

No new news

NOMB has had girlfriends, and as such, found nothing shocking about this one:

A Metairie woman was booked with negligent homicide after she stood by for hours while her boyfriend died of a methadone overdose, Kenner police said.

Hot Spot

The Westbank is heating up something serious

A 26-year-old bouncer was killed and a bartender wounded during a shooting early Monday outside of a Terrytown lounge.

Eric Patterson of Terrytown died from multiple gunshot wounds shortly after 2 a.m. when he was shot with an assault rifle outside Big Dawg's Lounge at 111 Wright Ave. A 30-year-old Algiers man was wounded by flying shrapnel; he is in good condition at University Hospital, said Jefferson Parish Chief Deputy Newell Normand.

The obvious

This one was so tiny, it almost slipped, like so many star systems, right through our fingers. Nice headline, too:

Man Dies From Gunshot Wounds:

Authorities are trying to identify a man who was found shot fatally Sunday evening in eastern New Orleans.

NOMB's not snitchin'

Much too much

Anderson Cooper "exposes" the "don't snitch" mentality that NOMB wears tattooed on their sides. Retribution is something the black community keeps in-house apparently:

More for today-
Gunfire early this morning in Terrytown has left one person dead and another injured.

Look up from your East Bound Claiborne drive and you'll see they're happy to have nabbed another of their black males faces, twenty feet tall above us.

A prime example

Not a word of the shooting. Only the report of the "success":

A 13-year-old boy was booked with attempted murder after he allegedly shot a man in the stomach a week ago, Kenner police said Friday.

The boy, who is not being identified by police because he is a juvenile, also was booked with attempted armed robbery in an incident involving the same victim. A 15-year-old boy was booked with being a principal to attempted second-degree murder.

Fucking kids.

Back up to Speed

The recent events in Virginia has sparked newspaper sales, making it ok for the Times-Picayune to but crime back on the front page. Always a strange fall-out from mass murder:

Three young men were shot in the Irish Chanel at about 9:49 p.m. Wednesday.

and of course, the "big daddy"

Enraged after his estranged wife took out a restraining order against him, a Pearl River area man ambushed his family Wednesday afternoon, shooting his wife and young son to death with a shotgun and wounding his two daughters after ramming their car off the road in a subdivision near Mandeville, authorities said

Despite everything with the package and the photos and all, NOMB still finds this kind of story the scariest of all.

Family Affair

When your this thick in it, there's no choices left, we guess

A 16-year-old boy, whose brother and three cousins have died from violence in New Orleans over the past seven years, was shot to death Tuesday night on Bayou Road near Esplanade Ridge.

Also, some armed robberies ala Menace 2 Society.

God Help Us

The recent situation at Virginia Tech is a reverse media nightmare. It's over coverage with lack of specifics is the antithesis of our New Orleans problems. Still, while the world gasps, we continue

Authorities are trying to sort out a brawl Friday morning outside a Metairie bar in which an assailant attacked one man with a machete and another with a pipe, according to a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office incident report.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office is searching for two men who allegedly stabbed two victims during an afternoon fight in LaPlace, a spokesman said Monday.

We try to placate, the rest of the country revels in outrage and hysteria.

(Side note: This is in no way shape or form a denial of the absolute insanity of yesterday's events)

Media Critique

It is increasingly harder to find reportage on incidents of violent crime in the city. Today, buried in the bottom corner of the metro section, NOMB found this:

Several teenagers are being sought for shooting five people at a Central City corner Saturday evening, including a woman who was left in critical condition, New Orleans police said.

In similar fashion, a few weeks back, the Times-Picayune reported the capture of a suspect in 17 armed robberies around the city. Nowhere in the previous weeks papers was there any mention of 17 robberies with similar MO’s or any string of crimes with similar circumstances.

It is the position of NOMB that shadowy forces are keeping the general tenor of the city’s crime problem on a very low frequency.

Also, it is now the policy of NOMB to aggressively fashion critiques of the New Orleans media outlets (as opposed to the tongue in cheek style which has hereto been our MO). We are very tired.

Recovery

A quick scan of the Metro section for the last two days puts one in a mild daze. If you were to take their word for it, indictments are up. The problem is holding your breath. No one can do it forever.

Scan the Article

And you will find no mention of this man's bushy hair, or the fact that his car was wheat pasted from top to bottom in fliers for his festival. I saw him in the street.

The son of New Orleans music legend Deacon John was fatally shot in his car on an Uptown street Tuesday afternoon, and police quickly arrested a suspect, police said.

From Start To Finish

NOMB posted on this a while back. An update in today's Time-Picayune reads:

A teenager accused of killing a rival on a Central City corner has been indicted by a state grand jury on a charge of second-degree murder along with his mother, who police say handed him the gun and instructed him to get even after he took a beating in a street scuffle.

It might seem unfathomable to our readers, but NOMB operates under the firmly held belief that there are two cities here. Two economies, two sets of decorum. In one world, this story is madness. In the other, it's madness.

Keepin em Rolling.

Two brunches and a Kombucha later, the wire had these two new homicides to print

1) Police also are investigating a shooting death late Saturday in the 9100 block of Fig Street.

2)A woman was found dead inside a FEMA trailer near the temporary campus of Southern University at New Orleans on Sunday morning, the third murder victim in New Orleans over the Easter weekend.

It's Easter Sunday.

And just up the street...

A Marrero man was shot to death Saturday afternoon in the 8th Ward, New Orleans police said.

Where're the berets except on the heads of out-of-towners, eh?

Good Friday

The Spanish Congregation on Dauphine and Clouet carried the crosses towards Poland St. As for the rest of the city...

The West Bank got off to a violent start with two morning homicides in Algiers and Crown Point, claiming the lives of a man and a 14-year-old. Authorities said a Gretna man may be involved in both slayings.

In other news:

NOMB used to do some plumbing work, and this man was a fixture at the counter of Barrnett Supply house in Metairie, where he flipped through the parts catalogue and complained about this and that. He drove a Jeep and now, he's dead:

A New Mexico plumber who was shot and wounded last month was found dead of a gunshot Friday morning in a vehicle on Interstate 10 in Kenner.

A Day of Rest

And on Tuesday, we were granted a stay. On Wed, we resume.

Breaking news from the Times-Pic:

New Orleans police are at the scene of a fatal shooting at Gov. Nicholls and North Johnson streets.

One person was killed in the shooting that occurred shortly after 5 p.m

A Wrap Up

We reported on some of this, although we don't actually report, but repost. Either way, here's the round up from today:

Four men were killed in separate shootings Monday in New Orleans, the most slayings in a single day this year.

A 22-year-old was shot in an argument outside a 7th Ward nightclub, according to police. In Algiers, gunshots allegedly triggered by a teenager felled a 52-year-old. A 21-year-old was killed in the middle of a Bywater street. Minutes later, a 29-year-old man died in in eastern New Orleans from a gunshot to the head. Riley said he has redeployed officers to Algiers and other “areas of concern” in response to the shootings.

If you read through the article, you'll notice that the name of the street in Bywater is not named. This is becasue organizations like Silence Is Violence work and live around here. The press is backing off the neighborhood. Maybe, they have orders not to incite.

Monday, Murder, Passover

From No East to the Cuttoff...

A 52-year-old Algiers man was found shot to death in his home Monday morning.

Here's looking to a Good Friday.

Perfect Sunday

New Orleans Murder Blog took Sunday off, went to the lake, the park, the ice cream store, sushi, breakfast, coffee, pressured washed a house. New Orleans on the other hand...

1) A 20-year-old New Orleans man was fatally shot in a FEMA trailer early this morning in the 3400 block of Touro Street in Gentilly after what appeared to a drug deal gone bad, police said.

2) New Orleans police were investigating two killings Saturday: a 21-year-old man found riddled with bullets in the 6000 block of Chef Menteur Highway and a 16-year-old gunned down as he tried to flee his attacker on an Algiers street.

Please, take a day off.
