Old, New, News

Whatever

Jimmy Houston, 23, was found with gunshot wounds near the front door of 1124 Tallow Tree Lane by Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies at 10:32 p.m., said Col. John Fortunato, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Office. Houston's body was found amid 22 shell casings from at least two weapons, but investigators have not identified a motive or suspects in the shooting.

Why not

Let's throw another body on the fire, after all, it's a Monday.

New Orleans Police are investigating this morning the murder of a man found shot in the Iberville housing development.
Gunshots were reported around 7 a.m. Monday in the 1400 block of Bienville Street, Officer Garry Flot said.
Upon arrival, police found an unidentified man on the ground with several gunshot wounds.

Can't you hear them? All the voices that think this is no big deal, since it was in the projects, comma splice.

Disgusted

NOMB's roommate is uninterested in the man on Pauger St.
"Not uninterested," she clarifies. "Tired"

For little relief from the neighborhood violence, we move to JP

A man was shot to death Sunday night in Harvey, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office reported.
Deputies responding to a report of a shooting around 10:30 p.m. found the man lying near the front door of 1124 Tallow TreeLane, said Col. John Fortunato, sheriff's office spokesman.

To say do something, would be a mute point...wouldn't it?

From the Hose Bid

We work 'round here. We ain't volunteers

A man was fatally shot Saturday night in the Zion City neighborhood, New Orleans police said.
The unidentified man was found dead in the Palmetto Canal along the 4100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard shortly before 9 p.m.

Self-Destro(ya)

Dear Folks on the Outside,
Stories filter into NOMB, becasue of it's nature, concerning men forcing young girls into cars, muggings at night, and others. While eating a soy patty in the kitchen standing up, NOMB hears the mayor on AM 870 declare, "We have a certian criminal element in the city. Sometimes visitors get sucked in." Or something to that effect.

Five teenagers have been arrested in connection with vandalism in Metairie Tuesday night into Wednesday morning during which they allegedly tossed a vodka bottle through a high school window, according to police reports.

Two brothers, accused of attacking employees of a Warehouse District restaurant this past weekend, turned themselves in Wednesday, police said.

But this one really says it all:

New Orleans police are trying to fill in the blanks in the robbery of a Lower Garden District smoothie shop Tuesday afternoon.

Four phone calls and one therapist session later, NOMB will not be going on hiatus, but rather, ramping up for full paranoid breakdown.
Thanks for the concern

Citizen Vs. Cohort

There comes a time when NOMB finally finds itself saying things like, "If you out on the street in the middle of the night in Pigeon Town you muust be one of two things. Either you one hard working motherfucker, or you up to no good."
Still, whatever can be done?

Police spokesman Sgt. Joe Narcisse said Second District officers were dispatched to the 8400 block of Panola St. shortly after 3 a.m., where they found the man bleeding on the roadway, apparently from a gunshot wound to the head.

The answer, we suppose is found in this quote:

"He was a very hard working man," said Robinson, who considered White family. “The fact that they just killed him, shot him point blank in the face for no reason.”

All of this shit gets to be too much

Let Talk Honest

Somewhere in the neighborhood, the thugs have set up shop. Reports indicate that an architect asked some kids to move their car on Piety street. They took a shot at him. The numbers are increasing in the street. They say they move from block to block. They have moved to ours.

But don't just blame the city though:

A Destrehan woman was carjacked Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot at Clearview Mall in Metairie, authorities said.

Close to home

NOMB swung by the house yesterday to charge the phone and eat peanut butter and jelly on four wheat crackers to keep them moving through the day. On their way out, four national guard troops pulled up in front of their house. All the while, only blocks away:

Two 15-year-old 9th Ward youths were wounded in a drive-by shooting late Monday afternoon, police said. Ivestigators learned the two had been standing in the 3200 block of Marais Street when a red vehicle headed west on Marais Street drove by, and one or more occupants of the vehicle opened fire, Flot said. Both were hit. They ran around the corner and collapsed on Piety Street, police said.

Day of paranoia to be sure. Sweet summer.

Death, Later in the Day

After the attempted mugging, and the run in with the low level Vietnamese gangster..and the irate landlord bent of driving a wedge between NOMB and their roommates, it took a while to compile our list of atrocities today. So without further ado:

A 19-year-old New Orleans man was shot to death in Algiers on Sunday and an 18-year-old was seriously wounded in the same incident, police reported.

Actually, that's it. We guess it just seemed like a crazy day, what with the violence so close to our breasts.

Site Update

Just for the record:

This site now allows anonymous comments, so, for all you out there that wished you could have told us to fuck off with out the fear of reprisal, here ya go.

Sunday's Best

With all the commotion over at city hall, the police shake ups, the DA shake ups, every city employee with the nervous shakes, the people shaking in their boots every time the walk to the car after dark to get their cell phone that they forgot on the seat, its a miracle that NOMB has time to catch up

1. The 27-year-old man, whose name has not been released pending notification of relatives, was found at the intersection of Eagle and Spruce streets around 1:30 a.m. this morning.
He had a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead on the scene.

2. A 20-year-old New Orleans woman was shot once in the leg and was driven to a hospital for treatment in a private car. She is in stable condition, police said.

3. Responding around 9:30 a.m., officers found a man lying face down outside a building at 2139 Baronne St., near Jackson Avenue. The man was identified as Leon Williams, 54, of New Orleans, chief coroner's investigator John Gagliano said.

Why do we feel like we are missing one today. Ahh, who cares, we lost count so long ago.

Someone help David V. please

More Old Stuff

At 73, he's either had it coming for a long time, or this is fucking terrible:

Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies are investigating the fatal shooting of a 73-year-old Marrero man.
Officials say Louis Perreria's wife called 9-1-1 shortly before midnight today to say her husband had been shot. When deputies arrived, theyfound Perreria lying across a bed in his home.

Old Fashion

Over by the Old St. Thomas Projects, the heads are doin' it to it. Just like it should have been, just like it will be. etc, etc,

New Orleans police were investigating the Lower Garden District shooting death of a man who arrived at Touro Hospital with a gunshot wound in his back and died a few hours later, police said.

The best part about this clip is the past tense, "were investigating"

This is What We Talkn Bout

Not a day after the "white lady crack addict gets reprieve" rant, The Times-Pic gives us this:

Bag of white powder found with slain man

A 33-year-old man was found shot dead early Wednesday lying in an eastern New Orleans street on a bag of white powder that investigators said may be cocaine, police said.

Jefferson Parish is catching up, even if they deflate their numbers

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting death of a man in Marrero early Thursday morning.

The incident, in the 2300 block of Sauvage Avenue, was reported shortly after midnight. No other details were immediately available.

Justice...

NOMB would like to take a minute to discuss the story that appeared in the Times-Picayune yesterday following the shooting of Nicole Guagliardo in Jefferson. NOMB would never suggests that anyone is undeserving of empathy, but crack additcts of minority decent are die everyday in this city and rarely recieve a full article tracing the chronology of their addiction. The headline, "Wreck led to woman's drug addiction, and ultimately her murder " relieves her of the burden of her actions. NOMB doesn't think anyone willingly gets addicted to crack, but shouldn't every poor soul who does and dies get a little reprive from the paper. After all, who's fault is crack anyway?

Here are some people who probably aren't responisble for anything either:

Racquel Singleton, 20, of 1205 Cambridge St.; Wayne Singleton, 24, of 713 Colony Drive; and Albert Smith III, 18, of 1205 Cambridge St., were booked with attempted first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery in the shooting of a 56-year-old cab driver July 10.

Authorities received a call Monday shortly before 10:30 p.m. from residents in the 900 block of Beechgrove Boulevard, in the Beechgrove Apartment complex, that a man was lying in a breezeway.
When deputies arrived, they found the man with multiple gunshot wounds, Garner said. He was taken to University Hospital, where he died Tuesday.

Here's a guy who spent a month in jail before they figured out that he wasn't responsible:

The June 15 homicide, in which Frederick Luwisch VI, also of St. Bernard, was stabbed to death, was the first in St. Bernard Parish in nearly two years, authorities said.
Merlin Brown of Poydras was initially booked with second-degree murder in the case, but was released from custody after detectives developed evidence instead pointing to Crawford. Brown, who had allegedly confessed, told investigators he had been trying to cover for Crawford because he is afraid of him.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday

Even NOMB has to start working again.
Friday -
Two Treme kids get lucky:
In New Orleans, two teenagers were shot Friday about 11 p.m. in the 1600 block of Touro Street in the 7th Ward.
The victims, ages 18 and 15, were taken to University Trauma Center. New Orleans police said they were expected to survive but did not release their names.

Sat -
A drug addict gets some good PR after her death:
Despite protests from her sister, Nicole Guagliardo was adamant that crack was her only choice.
"There was no talking her out of it," said Gugaliardo's sister, Alicia Gonzales, 23.
Gonzales hoped her sister's troubles would end with an arrest and a trip to jail, a wake-up call and some type of court-ordered treatment program. Jefferson deputies said they found Nicole Guagliardo, 28, of 556 Focis St., slumped over the wheel of a gold 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt parked in the driveway at 3032 Burns St. about 4 a.m.

Women are targets:
A Metairie woman was fatally shot early Saturday as she sat in a parked car near Causeway Boulevard and Earhart Expressway, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said.

This one is cryptic:
Later Saturday, another man was fatally shot in New Orleans.

Monday:
A Harvey man was gunned down in his home Monday morning while his girlfriend watched in Jefferson Parish's second killing in three days.
Antonie Stewart, 37, died of a gunshot wound to the head in the living room of his apartment in the 1200 block of Aberdeen Drive shortly before 6 a.m., said Col. John Fortunato, a spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

Another:
A man who was stabbed in the chest during a fight at his Old Jefferson home was recuperating in the hospital Monday, a friend said.
The friend, Moreira, said he found Glauco bleeding in the backyard and drove his friend to the hospital. Glauco did not say what happened.

Becasue NOMB can't find the e-version of the story in the Sunday paper about the murder in Central City, we'll just print this last one

A man once confined to a Mississippi state mental hospital has been booked with torching a church in St. Tammany Parish.
Eric Knotts was arrested Friday by state fire marshals

Saturday, July 14, 2007

Tounge In Cheek

Sometimes, NOMB uses humor. To what end? We don't know, it's just the way we do things. There's nothing funny about this.

One man was killed and two others wounded, but a baby narrowly escaped injury Friday evening, when gunshots from a passing vehicle were fired at a parked van in Central City, New Orleans police said.

Friday, July 13, 2007

Southern Hospitality

You know, biscuits and ham and hugs...

St. John the Baptist Sheriff's Office investigators are searching for two men who might be linked to a LaPlace home invasion, where a resident awoke to find a handgun pointed at his head. Two men entered a home in the 300 block of West Second Street on Wednesday sometime before 2:55 a.m., said Lt. Dane Clement, spokesman for the St. John Sheriff's Office.

Home Defense

You got to watch where you tread:

An Arabi man has been booked with attempted murder after firing several rounds from an AK-47 rifle through a wall and door of a FEMA trailer at another man.Amir Ismail, 19, of 520 Mehle St., was inside his trailer when another man came to the door Tuesday. Ismail fired several shots through a wall and door of the trailer in the man's direction, the incident report said.

There is something oddly poetic about this Times-Picayune report. Michelle Hunter is really cutting her teeth on this copy:

Dermott Murphy said he had a gut feeling something wasn't right. The uneasiness hit him as he pulled into the driveway of his Metairie home in the1200 block of Brockenbraugh Court Wednesday at 5 a.m. after an early breakfast with a friend at the International House of Pancakes. He was anxious because someone had tried to break into his rented double through a back window just three days earlier. As he pulled his Pontiac Grand Prix into his tiny backyard, he spotted two men attempting to pry the plywood off that same back window.
Murphy told a Jefferson Parish deputy sheriff that one of the men pulled a gun and opened fire, so he did the same.
"You got no choice but to defend yourself," said Murphy, who used his .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol.

Anyone who knows the Quarter, knows the possibilities here are endless at the magical land of Oz:

New Orleans Police said Thursday they were looking for a man who stabbed another man in the French Quarter earlier that morning. The incident happened in the 800 block of Bourbon Street, according to investigators.

'Bout to Pop Pop Off

This is one way to deal with a situation:

A Metairie resident exchanged gunshots with a pair of burglars he said he caught trying to break into his home early Wednesday.

And another:

One of New Orleans most horrific murder cases, the massacre of five teenagers in Central City a year ago, fell apart Tuesday when prosecutors admitted they don't have the evidence to make their case in court.Prosecutors then said they hadn't heard from their key witness in eight month

A third:

A 19-year-old LaPlace man has been booked with aggravated battery after allegedly hitting a 16-year-old in the head with a baseball bat during an altercation over makeshift water balloons.

Tuesday, July 10, 2007

While LA senators sleep with prostitutes and embezzle funds to promote technology in Africa, the West Bank heats up something fierce:

A Terrytown cabdriver who allegedly fired four shots at a car with two children inside has been booked in St. Charles Parish with attempted manslaughter.

The cabbie, Thayer M. Hamdalla, 23, allegedly fired one of the shots at the vehicle through the windshield of his United cab after tailgating the other vehicle, passing it and slamming on his brakes on Interstate 10 in St. Charles Parish, Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. Patrick Yoes said.

Bam

No autopsy required on this West Jeff piece of work:

Emergency personnel responding to the scene found two people slumped in the front seat of a 2002 Ford Taurus parked in the driveway of that address, the Sheriff's Office said.

Meanwhile, Rush Limbaugh is saying that Al Queda is feeding people their own children as a means of intimidation. Atrocities big and small.

Inconsistencies

What amazes NOMB about this story is the line "last weekend". Seven shots take seven days to make the paper in Kenner

Kenner police are looking for the person who fired about seven shots into a crowd of people at a cookout last weekend, according to a police report.

Also, there seems to be some confusion over at NOPD. It seems it took them awhile to make the final determinationm on this death...

The Orleans Parish coroner's office has released the identity of a man who was shot to death on Skyview Drive in eastern New Orleans on Thursday.
An autopsy determined Jerome Banks, 27, of New Orleans was killed by a shotgun blast to the chest, said chief cororner's investigator John Gagliano, who released his identity.

We don't even feel like going on with this today. The sun is out kids. Go swimming.

White Flight

If your plan is to move to Jefferson and escape the carnage, you out of luck this week:

Chad Arceneaux, 34, was killed by a gunshot to the back in the 600 block of Emile Avenue near Westwego shortly before 11:30 p.m., said Deputy Chief Tom Gorman of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. His son, who was sitting in the back seat at the time of the incident, was not injured.

They even taking shots at the law:

Deputy Joshua Norris, 22, was the first officer to arrive at 273 Southwood Drive. As he approached the house, he was shot once in the upper right chest, according to Chief Deputy Newell Norman.

Meanwhile, over here in Orleans, we got a rapist loose up town (according to the T.V. news), sirens every night, and the last only greatest big summer festival kicking off this weekend.

Down With...

OPP

The Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff's Office said 29-year-old Parish Prison inmate Glenn Thomas of New Orleans died Tuesday just after 11 p.m.

come on, you would have done the same thing. it was just that easy.

BENCHMARKS

Today, NOMB, along with the City of New Orleans, and the omnipresent Times-Picayune, have an exciting announcment!

That's right folks, it's the BIG 100. We finally did it, and only half way through the year. All it took was this, apparently:

A 65-year-old man was found shot to death Sunday night alongside his former residence in the 8th Ward, police said.

Say it ain't so.

Monday, July 2, 2007

Slow Down

People, seriously, slow down:

J. Guadalupe Portillo, 49, was found dead of a single gunshot wound to his back at 1009 Tallow Tree Lane shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday night, said Col. John Fortunato, a spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

and...

On Saturday, deputies investigated a non-fatal shooting in the 2000 block of Carver Drive at about 2:15 p.m.

Drink Ice Tea, cover you head.

Busy Days, Hot Mess

Ya'll can read this one for yourselves:

Four Dead in Nine hours

When friends are visiting, its best not to bring up your blog that tracks murders, it makes the walking tour so much more tense. And don't we all want to let it slide anyway?

Also, in the urban trends hit rural areas!

A man was fatally shot Sunday night in Harvey, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said.

And for good measure (not so rural)

A 30-year-old man who suffered multiple stab wounds died early Sunday at West Jefferson Medical Center, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

Happy SUMMER from NOMB!
