Round 1

Here we go folks. These are the first applicants in the all new NOMB "Hunt for the assistant editor". Let us Know:

25 more alive?

"A 19-year-old New Orleans man was shot dead on a 7th Ward sidewalk as he walked home Wednesday night, police said."
"Police were not yet able to identify a subject or motive in the shooting, Assistant Superintendent Marlon Defillo said. Wednesday night's victim was at least the 162nd homicide in the city this year. There were 187 reported homicides at this time last year."

WHAT I WANT TO KNOW WHY DOES THE NOPD THINK TODAY IS THE DAY TO ANNOUNCE THAT STATS AE IMPROVING THAT BOY IS STILL DIED ON THE SIDEWALK SO WHAT IF THERE ARE 25 MORE LEFT OF US TO CRY FOR HIM??

Hope, but not for us

1) A 19-year-old New Orleans man was shot dead on a 7th Ward sidewalk as he walked home Wednesday night, police said. […] Wednesday night's victim was at least the 162nd homicide in the city this year. There were 187 reported homicides at this time last year.
2) Kenner Police are investigating a murder-suicide involving a man and his estranged girlfriend that occurred early this morning in the front yard of her residence in the 3400 block of East Louisiana State Drive, according to spokesman Shaun Watson. Police said Jason Alexander, 26, of New Orleans, apparently shot 22-year-old Alicia Fruge twice in the face and then shot himself in the head in the front yard of Fruge's residence. [...] Watson said Kenner Police responded to a call shortly before 3 a.m. from Fruge's aunt who heard gunshots outside of the residence she shared with Fruge and Fruge's one-year-old child.
All blank faces, yours too. Both these crimes got reported on already by the NOMB this month...you were hoping, yeah? Ah, mais c'est le demon c'est dans les details. No whining y'all. It's still November, means you still have a chance to make good on that 187. Keepin it under, that is. Your friends in blue know it's about that time of year. Numbers, numbers, numbers...

Here we go again

A 19-year-old New Orleans man was shot dead on a 7th Ward sidewalk as he walked home Wednesday night, police said.

The saddest thing is we really don't know anything and probably never will. This is just like all the other entries you read on the NOMB that there isn't anything said about them and so all you read is another kid who can't even drink is dead. it's unbelievable/horrible thing that to write this first post I had to wait for this news, but as hard as that is for me i think it's important. God bless the boy's family. Thanks to the editors for giving me a chance to contribute to what I believe is a really important record of all the craziness that happens in this city we all love in spite of it.

I think desconocido best captures the flava of NOMB so far. Good writing. Hope you find a reliable and savvy asst. editor! Thanks for keeping up the NOMB, we check it daily, gruesome as that is. -- upper 9th ward reader/Katrina survivor/Markey's regular

Not one of the three really brought it. But if I had to pick, hands down it would be the first.

Maybe CAPSLOCK threw me off, but JKT sounds like he's got a lot of passion. His rambling response, punctuated as one long, incoherent question, provides a nice parallel to the crimes. It's a subtle, and I imagine coincidental, relfection on the fact that no one, including the police, ever makes any sense out of the murders.

Regarding the 2nd & 3rd applicatants I have one comment to make: sycophantism and meta-blogging have no-place on NOMB.

Side note. If it weren't for my out-of-state residence, I would totally go for the assistant editor position.

NOMB, Please make the decision for asst editor your own! Content given to write can be delivered infinitely...it's your brilliant execution that keeps me coming back! Kbam

desconocido does have a flavor more in keeping with the usual sardonic, jaded angst NOMB usually writes with, but i have to give cordelia the nod. a softer, less idiomatic voice would be a nice juxtaposition to the usual tone. although i don't see why you couldn't support two new editors.

speaking of idioms, here's one from the online gaming community.
