Crazy 8

The following is reported to you regretfully. We know it's Jazzfest, playoff season, t-off time, and that the weather's been absolutely the last word. We know everyone roots for the N.O. harder than ever when we get a little love from the rest of the country. But then there's the eight people were shot to death this week (figure includes the greater New Orleans area, see Monday and Friday's posts as well). Plus there's the swine flu. Don't worry, though, you're statistically more likely to be shot to death.

1) Members of the New Orleans Police Department have arrested 25-year-old Roy Parker, wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of his estranged wife, a 23-year-old female and the shooting of a 25-year-old male. The offense occurred on May 2, 2009, shortly after 5:00 A.M., 800 block of Conti Street in the Erin Rose Irish Pub. Both were employees of the Royal Sonesta Hotel on Bourbon Street. French Quarter, Murder

2) A male who was shot to death around 9 a.m. Saturday in Metairie has been identified as Bryant Washington of Marrero. Washington, 18, was pronounced dead from multiple bullet wounds at the scene at 501 North Elm Street. Metairie, Murder

Thanks to the boys in blue for this one:

3) On Friday, 5/1/09, 8:39pm, 1600 Elysian Fields St. Officers observed the victim lying in the street suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead on scene. Police have arrested two suspects. Manuel Melchoir had been in the store about 8:20 p.m. when he saw two men outside fighting. He said he called police but they did not come. Both men left, but the man who had wielded the machete returned with a gun. 7th Ward, Murder

4) On Wednesday, 4/29/09, 10:07pm, 1100 block of Louisa St. Upon arrival officers observed the victim lying in the street. EMS transported the victim to the hospital. The victim was then pronounced dead. St. Roch, Murder
