Justice...

NOMB would like to take a minute to discuss the story that appeared in the Times-Picayune yesterday following the shooting of Nicole Guagliardo in Jefferson. NOMB would never suggests that anyone is undeserving of empathy, but crack additcts of minority decent are die everyday in this city and rarely recieve a full article tracing the chronology of their addiction. The headline, "Wreck led to woman's drug addiction, and ultimately her murder " relieves her of the burden of her actions. NOMB doesn't think anyone willingly gets addicted to crack, but shouldn't every poor soul who does and dies get a little reprive from the paper. After all, who's fault is crack anyway?


Here are some people who probably aren't responisble for anything either:

Racquel Singleton, 20, of 1205 Cambridge St.; Wayne Singleton, 24, of 713 Colony Drive; and Albert Smith III, 18, of 1205 Cambridge St., were booked with attempted first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery in the shooting of a 56-year-old cab driver July 10.

Authorities received a call Monday shortly before 10:30 p.m. from residents in the 900 block of Beechgrove Boulevard, in the Beechgrove Apartment complex, that a man was lying in a breezeway.
When deputies arrived, they found the man with multiple gunshot wounds, Garner said. He was taken to University Hospital, where he died Tuesday.

Here's a guy who spent a month in jail before they figured out that he wasn't responsible:

The June 15 homicide, in which Frederick Luwisch VI, also of St. Bernard, was stabbed to death, was the first in St. Bernard Parish in nearly two years, authorities said.
Merlin Brown of Poydras was initially booked with second-degree murder in the case, but was released from custody after detectives developed evidence instead pointing to Crawford. Brown, who had allegedly confessed, told investigators he had been trying to cover for Crawford because he is afraid of him.

Two Treme kids get lucky:
In New Orleans, two teenagers were shot Friday about 11 p.m. in the 1600 block of Touro Street in the 7th Ward.
The victims, ages 18 and 15, were taken to University Trauma Center. New Orleans police said they were expected to survive but did not release their names.

A drug addict gets some good PR after her death:
Despite protests from her sister, Nicole Guagliardo was adamant that crack was her only choice.
"There was no talking her out of it," said Gugaliardo's sister, Alicia Gonzales, 23.
Gonzales hoped her sister's troubles would end with an arrest and a trip to jail, a wake-up call and some type of court-ordered treatment program. Jefferson deputies said they found Nicole Guagliardo, 28, of 556 Focis St., slumped over the wheel of a gold 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt parked in the driveway at 3032 Burns St. about 4 a.m.

Women are targets:
A Metairie woman was fatally shot early Saturday as she sat in a parked car near Causeway Boulevard and Earhart Expressway, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said.

This one is cryptic:
Later Saturday, another man was fatally shot in New Orleans.

Monday:
A Harvey man was gunned down in his home Monday morning while his girlfriend watched in Jefferson Parish's second killing in three days.
Antonie Stewart, 37, died of a gunshot wound to the head in the living room of his apartment in the 1200 block of Aberdeen Drive shortly before 6 a.m., said Col. John Fortunato, a spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

Another:
A man who was stabbed in the chest during a fight at his Old Jefferson home was recuperating in the hospital Monday, a friend said.
The friend, Moreira, said he found Glauco bleeding in the backyard and drove his friend to the hospital. Glauco did not say what happened.

Sometimes, NOMB uses humor. To what end? We don't know, it's just the way we do things. There's nothing funny about this.

One man was killed and two others wounded, but a baby narrowly escaped injury Friday evening, when gunshots from a passing vehicle were fired at a parked van in Central City, New Orleans police said.

St. John the Baptist Sheriff's Office investigators are searching for two men who might be linked to a LaPlace home invasion, where a resident awoke to find a handgun pointed at his head. Two men entered a home in the 300 block of West Second Street on Wednesday sometime before 2:55 a.m., said Lt. Dane Clement, spokesman for the St. John Sheriff's Office.

An Arabi man has been booked with attempted murder after firing several rounds from an AK-47 rifle through a wall and door of a FEMA trailer at another man.Amir Ismail, 19, of 520 Mehle St., was inside his trailer when another man came to the door Tuesday. Ismail fired several shots through a wall and door of the trailer in the man's direction, the incident report said.

Dermott Murphy said he had a gut feeling something wasn't right. The uneasiness hit him as he pulled into the driveway of his Metairie home in the1200 block of Brockenbraugh Court Wednesday at 5 a.m. after an early breakfast with a friend at the International House of Pancakes. He was anxious because someone had tried to break into his rented double through a back window just three days earlier. As he pulled his Pontiac Grand Prix into his tiny backyard, he spotted two men attempting to pry the plywood off that same back window.
Murphy told a Jefferson Parish deputy sheriff that one of the men pulled a gun and opened fire, so he did the same.
"You got no choice but to defend yourself," said Murphy, who used his .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol.

New Orleans Police said Thursday they were looking for a man who stabbed another man in the French Quarter earlier that morning. The incident happened in the 800 block of Bourbon Street, according to investigators.

A Metairie resident exchanged gunshots with a pair of burglars he said he caught trying to break into his home early Wednesday.

A Terrytown cabdriver who allegedly fired four shots at a car with two children inside has been booked in St. Charles Parish with attempted manslaughter.

The cabbie, Thayer M. Hamdalla, 23, allegedly fired one of the shots at the vehicle through the windshield of his United cab after tailgating the other vehicle, passing it and slamming on his brakes on Interstate 10 in St. Charles Parish, Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. Patrick Yoes said.
