At 3 p.m., there was a report that two men took a white van from its driver at gunpoint. The carjacking occurred in the 1500 block of North Derbigny Street, about four or five blocks from the apartment building where the shooting occurred.

Add this to the fact that a New York editor and one of the editors from NOMB were chased out of a house not two blocks from this location on Tuesday @ 10:00 AM by a crack dealer who had set up shop in one of the abandoned house that NOMB works on.

Plus the recent threat issued to one of the volunteers that stemmed from the misparking of a car in front of a house ("I'm gonna put a hole in your back," was the official word on that) and what you have is a city where you shouldn't bring your mother.

NOMB drives a white van past that spot on the daily, kid.

P.S. All that hubbub at N. Claiborne and Esplanade/Gov Nicholls turned out to be a sham. Nice that they rolled SWAT out there. No really, nice.
