DADS

1) On Wednesday, January 7, 2008, at about 8:45 pm, the victim was stopped in his vehicle in the 3900 block of Hamilton St. An unknown suspect approached the victim and fired three shots, striking the victim in the chest and hip. The suspect then fled the scene. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.

2) A man being chased by law officers drove a truck into Lake Pontchartrain in Kenner this morning. Scharwath was removed from the water and taken to University Hospital in New Orleans for treatment of hypothermia. Scharwath was cited for traffic violations and resisting arrest by flight. Scharwath's father told investigators he didn't realize his son had the [his] vehicle.

Silence is Violence, the nonprofit group that helped organize thousands in a historic anti-crime march on City Hall two years ago, has scheduled a rally across the city Friday to show that New Orleanians will not be held hostage by violence.
